Night out and more...
So, wednesday morning the boys had a little lie in til 10 while the girls went to Marris Stella private school to teach the littluns. We went in to the same school at 11 to coach tchoukball which i was buzzin about...the session went really well and the teacher is buzzin all over us now. she wants us to go back and tech it to her other class so thats pretty good eh? (everyone here says eh? after everything)
We then went to a rural area miiiiles away in the middle of a load of shanty towns and poverty. we coached hockey on the bobbly-est pitch in the world, laura led the session with the girls and it went really well...
then the night happened. we heard about a wine tasting session at the casino so naturally, being a classy bastard, i joined the gang. there were over 140 wines to be sampled...we managed to get to about 30 before it closed...(the pics of us holding our hands and fingers out corresponds to how many we'd tasted at that time) in the last ten minutes we just started downing full glasses of red, mustve polished off two or three bottles each. Went back to Tekwini backpackers for a few, where danny fell asleep on the floor in the carpark and ieuan decided to tea-bag him (this explains the pic)
then onto a club called 80's or something, i dont really remember much after this although apparently laura had to look after me and bring me home...she wasnt best pleased in the morning. all sorted now tho, haha.
today we stood in front of a class packed with about 60 kids and talked about uni life etc and they asked us questions about england...they seem to think england is amazing and they were asking if they could get into university in england...aaawkwaaard. we then did a netball session with a team, it was pretty boring so i wont go on about it.
tomorrow; me, laura and a couple others are doing another talk then we are all hitting the beach for some volleyball and tchoukball, followed by a trip to the skatepark - that should be interesting.
Anyway, im going to shoot back to play some poker, hopefully earn a few rand.
by the way, safari in st. lucia game reserve is booked for this weekend!
Big up to ma bruvva for gettin his bad-self a job, nice one mate...work hard
Jamie,
p.s - we are planning on getting bunny-chow, havent had one yet though.
pps - im upto 15 dollars on the ads...hinty hint hint.

Welcome to South Africa
Hey everyone,
Got here safe and sound, only took a total of 24 hours to get here so wasnt too bad... The flight was all inclusive so drunk quite a few whiskeys and watched ace ventura on the t.v
We are staying at Tekwini backpackers, a nice little place with loads of people from all over the world in. Had a massive bbq last night which was deeecent and been drinking savannah dry cider, which is only 11 rand, (95p) a bottle. bought one from Heathrow and it was 3 pound fifty.
I tried surfing yesterday which was ridiculously hard, the waves are pretty big tho so when i get the hang of it, it should be pretty "radical".
Went to a private school today and it was amezzin, much better than any school ive ever been in...new pool, sports hall etc... arranged to go in and teach Handball to their year 10 girls (its a girls school) so that should be good. Think we are going to a more poor part tomorrow, so should be a bit more of a challenge.
Just to worry people: Andy Smith, our leader, was walking to Spar the other day and passed a dead body on the street with police around it...but apparently it looked more like a homeless person had copped it rather than someone being murdered or whatever...still though, hits home that we are in a completely differtent world here. well, different country.
On a lighter note we've planned a little trip to Orby Gorge on sunday where you can do abseiling, zip line and a massive bungee rope swing over the gorge...buzzin my balls off for that one.
Anyway, need to get back to the backpackers to get ready for a Mexican meal, get in.
Hope everyone is well...ill write soon
Jay .
P.s happy birthday matt, hope you had a ledge one.
pps, ive got some pics to put on here, ill wack them on tomorrow sometime (i forgot to bring my usb lead to the cafe) x

leaving cambtown tomorrow..
well this is pretty much it,
Cliopatra (my car) is packed to the tk maxx and ready to go...just went to tescos at midnight to get some last minute stuff.
its really weird going into tesco at midnight, has anyone done it? theres one member of staff on at the "DIY" tills and shes mental. she was running around like an idiot from till to till muttering under her breath "this job requires more than one pair of hands" then onto another customer and tells them that this job requires more than one pair of hands. Then someone couldnt get the till working so they ask her for help and she shuffles over there muttering it again...then some bloke wanted the magnetic tag off his ink cartridge so she got all stressed about that and started trying to get it off and it wasnt working...thats when i decided to let her know that i needed the tag off of my new digital camera (£30...cheeeers, that'll break in a day). she was NOT happy. she couldnt get the tags off so she stormed over to a desk and got some scissors, brought them back and started cutting a massive hole in the blokes ink cartridge case to get the tag off. saying over and over again "ill just use scissors and cut my hands in the process it obviously doesnt matter"... being as tactful as i am, i thought id calm her down and ask if she could "destroy my item now" went down a storm.
my camera is amazing, cheap, 5mp, light as a feather and made of paper. itl do, atleast when i get mugged in S.A they wont get much. heres a couple of pics i just took...the flash is mental.

lovely...Anyway, i shall see you all in a while, ill write again when we get settled in

Nearly there...
Only a couple days to go...feeling more prepared now, got my last injection on monday (which didnt hurt at all cos im well hard) clothes are washed (thanks mum) and other bits and bobs done too.
Most of you know we did a big bike ride, simulating the distance from Durban to Johannesburg on exercise bikes. we raised a total of 1600 to take with us and buy sports equipment for the children out there so thanks to everyone who sponsored...heres some pics of us lookin stupid: and yes, that is a tutu, deal with it. >

One week to go...
Just one week til we fly out. I dont feel very prepared right now, I got my travel insurance only two nights ago, i havent packed, nor had my full lot of injections.
I was meant to have three Hep B injections before i went but i left it too late to book appointments so im gona have to make do with just 2...im not sure how you get Hep B...i just googled it and apparently its like AIDS. so i definitely wont be drinking blood, sharing needles or having sexual contact with someone who has Hep B. Good job i googled it cos that was my plan for the first weekend.
I need to get Malaria tablets as well...i chose not to get a rabies jab cos i found out that the jab doesnt make you immune to rabies, it just allows you another 48 hours to get to a hospital if you get bitten or scratched by some mental dog foaming at the mouth. If you dont get the jab you only have 24 hours to get to the hospital. If you dont get there in time then you're dead within three weeks. Rabies is pretty mental.
Been looking into a six day tour of the garden route that includes things like touching a cheetah, riding an ostrich, diving with great white sharks, sky diving and bungee jumping. Really want to get on it. it will be in our last week, after the 4 weeks volunteering...ill keep you posted.
Apparently there's a computer where we are staying so ill be able to update this blog quite regularly and upload photos etc. Dont know what the computer will be like though, might be awful like those Acorn ones you used to have at school, remember them? i remember playing a game called Pod where it says at the top of the screen "Pod can _ _ _ _" and you had to fill in the blanks with a verb like 'jump' or 'swim' and Pod (Who is a big tomato with eyes and legs) would do what you told it to. It wasnt til a year later that we were taught that tomatoes dont really have legs, eyes or the ability to 'leap'.
sorry. anyway thats it for now...ill "blog" again later...
Actually im not going to say "blog" from now on cos it makes me sound like one of those douchebags who sit in starbux with a laptop and write constantly, they can go blog themselves.
