rugby weekend...(boys on tour, weeeey)

Hey everyone,

Had a very different but awesome weekend. Me and the other lads were asked to go to Newcastle which is about 4 hours away from durban, to help run a rugby tournament for township teams. The teams were from all over the region and there were selectors there looking for kids to play for the regional team. there were also opportunities for the boys to gain bursaries for private school which would mean they would get out of their township and get a proper education. Me and Ieuan were placed with Zululand under 15s while the other two lads: James and Danny had the under 12 Zululand team. We didnt have to do much coaching as our coach was pretty switched but we helped with the warm up and sorting out their body language, handling, team building etc. four of our boys got selected for the regional team, not sure about bursaries though. The guy with us in the pic in black polo shirts is richard who works for Sharks rugby team, really nice guy who wants to do some business with us doing gap year exchanges. sounds pretty awesome.

(Although the tournament was well run, they were welding the posts together while standing on top of up-turned bins while the boys were warming up)

The hotel we stayed in was awesome, it was more a country lodge than a hotel, had a nice swimming pool (hence the bombing pic) with really nice scenery all around. Plus we got full english breakfasts.

On saturday night we were invited out to drink in a township nearby, we would be the only white people there surrounded by native Zulu people. we said yes, obviously. It was amazing, turned up to this place thats a butchers during the day but turned into a nightlclub...absolutely ram packed with Zulu's and we bowl on in looking as white as milk. we got soem right looks but the majority loved us and came over high fiving etc so was a ledge night. Something that not a lot of people have ever done as they hardly ever see white people in the townships, let alone at a nightclub.

Then we got to drive richards car back for a few hours as he drove a car in front of us. That was pretty sweet. so all in all a ledge weekend, got me back into rugby again...been a while since ive enjoyed it at school.

I hope everyone in UK is well, heard the weather is picking up there...was only 35 degrees this weekend...thats all...soooo.

Jamie
